A Weekly Meme Hosted by Booking Through Thursday

What do you think of speed-reading? Is it a good way to get through a lot of books, or does the speed-reader miss depth and nuance? Do you speed-read? Is some material better suited to speed-reading than others?

I can read faster than I generally do. Some parts I speed through or even skim if I'm antsy or bored. Parts I've been waiting for that had a steady build-up, I generally slow down for - sometimes ridiculously so - and just savor the rewards. I see no point in speed reading. I don't read to read a lot, I read to enjoy what I do read. Books I'm into don't take me long to finish, so I read faster in general, but speed? No. Reading is a luxury, not an accomplishment.
