Why I Love Wednesdays - Feb. 15th

Why I love Wednesdays is a weekly meme hosted by the fun blog, Reflections of a Bookaholic. It's a mid-week meme focusing on something loved about books or bookish. I do a lot of memes already that are general questions, but some of these themes and prompts are a bit different so thought it looked fun!

Why I love...Love Stories

I'm not going to choose a certain love story for this theme. I really just want to discuss about what I love with romances, why I love them in general. Anyone who really follows my blog knows I'm not a huge romance-only fan to begin with. It's nothing against the genre, most of it is just poorly written.
If there is no romance in another genre, it can bug me though; series especially need something.

Here's some ironic stuff about me:

I only like romances that are written well
I need some minor romance at least in series
If a book has too much romance and not enough plot, when it's not supposed to be a ROMANCE, it's a turn off. This is why I dislike many paranormal romances. The love is rushed too much to where there's no build up and it's just boring.

For the romances I do read that I enjoy, what I love about them is the strong heady emotion, the sweet endings, the powerful moments, the excitement throughout that people all experience in life. Yes, romance may exaggerate it some, but it's still fun to live through book form, it's memorable in life. It's something hopeful. I love Harlequin Romances, the short Present ones. I love steamy erotica ONLY if it's genuinely hot and not irritating, kinky or not. I'm not a prude I just find some of it poorly done. I do like some historical romances as well - some of the innocence back then with the older man is fascinating. Also dig Indian stories in romances, rich older gentlemen, dominant businessmen, sweet guys next door. Not into cowboy stuff much and I just don't get into baby romances (with children involved) or pregnancy romances. Not sure why, just not my thing. I do dig when the story has some fun humor moments as well.
