A Weekly Meme Hosted by Booking Through Thursday

This week's Book Through Thursday

Do you have “issues” with too much profanity or overly explicit (ahem) “romantic” scenes in books? Or do you take them in stride? Have issues like these ever caused you to close a book? Or do you go looking for more exactly like them? (grin)

I usually look for them, I'll admit it. Eroticism can fit the mood when it's that time. I've never closed a book because of any subject material. The only time I'll give up is if I lose the thing, get bored, or genuinely loathe it (even then I usually keep reading). Profanity doesn't bug me as long as it fits in with the characters, I don't see profanity as other people do (a sin, etc.) Romantic scenes done right can make or break say, a romance. As a big horror fiction reader I've seen countless bizarre and almost go to far scenes but I think I'm jaded enough to not have too much turn me off from a book besides the above listed and bad characterization.

I don't generally read erotica. It's not really my thing, so I don't actively hunt it out. That being said, I don't mind it if it's in the context of a good book!

I like how you admit it!

This has nothing to do with the "Booking Through Thursday" but had to tell you......that I absolutely LOVE the Superman picture! Oh, and I agree with what you wrote too! Unless it really gross sexual stuff like.....well you know what I mean. Then I'm totally disgusted with the book and don't want to read anymore.

I don't mind it at all. I not only expect it to be very graphic in erotica, but I want it to be.

Even in more mainstream romance, I don't care how explicit it is.

To me, having a good plot is essential. I'm ok with it as long as it's written tastefully.

Hope you have a great weekend ahead.

I prefer books with stories not just erotica. I can't stand it for itsown sake!

I do read erotica every now and then. There are actually some good reads in that genre. I can handle pretty much a lot of things except for rape. Those I stay away from.

That's a great picture!

I agree with most of what you said, Erin. I have never tried reading erotica, although someday I probably well just to see if it's something I'd like. I have my doubts, being that I'm not too fond of most romance novels, but you never know. :-) I am generally open to try something new.

That's pretty much my thoughts too, Erin!

The closest I've ever come to reading erotica is some of the later Laurell K. Hamilton books(I don't mind some sexy but if there's no other plotline than that,I'm bored).

When I was about eleven or so,I picked up a copy of Jaws and was shocked at seeing the word "damn" on the first page. I put the book down but compared to most of the books I've read over the years, that tiny little cuss word is rather quaint these days:)
