A Weekly Meme from GReads!
Since music is one of the main things in my life outside of books, I jumped on the bandwagon for this fun meme. What were you listening to when you were a teenager? We all come from different decades, with different tunes. For this month, please pick some of your favorite songs that bring you back to those glorious teenage years!
1996: At 16 I was a little music addict but hadn't really expanded to other genres (oldies, classical, etc. until my twenties) Here I was addicted to all that was current and modern shock rock - Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, Filter, Nirvana, Tool, Sublime, etc.
Ah, remember when MTV was about Music videos? This was one of those years.
No Doubt: Don't Speak
I got to go to their concert this year - saw No Doubt with Cake (Didn't care for the second band). It was funny as my boyfriend at the time said he was scared of Gwen Stefani when she did her hunching forward movement lol. Went with Melissa also to this. Was a fun time. Of course some rejects threw knives at the stage when Cake was on and the lead singer started threatening the crowd.
Smashing Pumpkins: 1997 and Tonight, Tonight
Ironically I'm a bigger fan of Smashing Pumpkins NOW than I was then. (Especially Disarm!) Still, 1997 was awesome to me then as it was now and was a big crave of teenagers at the time, and Tonight, Tonight is just pure genius.
Butthole Surfers: Pepper
What a fun song with a bizarre mixing pot of poetic lyrics that is just fun to jam to.
Metallica: Until It Sleeps
I love Metallica's softer stuff. (Keep the boos to yourself please!) I remember this music video was a big thing that year too, a creepy little thing.
Sublime: What I Got
Garbage: Stupid Girl
Shirley Manson was, and is, dreamy. Love the girls voice and their lyrics. Highly underrated now IMO. Back then they were peaking in popularity with songs such as this. My favorite from them will always be CRUSH.
Alice in Chains: Heaven Beside you
If you haven't listened to this one, rush to it. Different kind of stuff for the band but as awesome as they are.
