Armchair BEA: Introductory Questions

Armchair BEA Introduction Questions

Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?

I'm a 33 year old female in Central Florida who began this site years ago in 2007. I wanted to keep track of what I was reading, review books, have fun with bookish posts celebrating my love of reading with others, and do something personally for myself as a hobby. I had previously reviewed for other sites but disliked the lack of control and also the timelines I couldn't always meet on my own if something in real life interfered.

Where in the world are you blogging from? Tell a random fact or something special about your current location. Feel free to share pictures.

I'm from central Florida, Lakeland to be more precise. This town is pretty decent - low crime level, large and continually growing, and right between the larger tourist cities, Orlando and Tampa. A little less than an hour distance between both of them.

We are lucky to be blessed with all kinds of unique movie theatres. We have the old drive in, Silvermoon drive-in, which many towns now lack. They pass out $2.00 bills for change, have advertisements being the old ones reminiscent of vintage days, and you can see two movies back-to-back for the price of admission. We also have a Mugs N Movies where you can see a movie and eat with tables and a bar and servers. There's also the Polk Theatre, an ancient old theatre I STILL have not visited where Elvis visited and signed the wall. There they do productions and movie marathons. And of course we have the brand new, large theaters like Cobb.

We also have a large used bookstore here, The Book Bazaar, the smaller used bookstore Bookends, and even though Barnes N Nobles closed down in our town, we still have the large bookstore, Books-a-Million.

I posted past pictures and information on these used bookstores in my vacationing feature (follow the links).

Also I have two great libraries near me - The Lakeland Library and the Mulberry Library.

Have you previously participated in Armchair BEA? What brought you back for another year? If you have not previously participated, what drew you to the event?

This is my first year, and I'm pretty excited. I saw it done last year and glad I caught it in time this year.

What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2013?

Definitely Ever After by Kim Harrison, which was released in January. Total book love. Right now about to start the last Sookie Stackhouse, Dead ever After by Charlaine Harris.

What literary location would you most like to visit? Why?

I'd love the visit the New York Public Library. It's been displayed in several movies (Ghostbusters, anyone?), is huge, and famous for good reason. I think every reader should visit at least once in their lifetime.
