Sunday Salon - April 12

The Sunday Salon was originally started in 2008, but over the years has grown too large to accept new members. They are now a facebook group and open to all. Imagine some university library's vast reading room. It's filled with people--students and faculty and strangers who've wandered in. They're seated at great oaken desks, books piled all around them, and they're all feverishly reading and jotting notes in their leather-bound journals as they go. Later they'll mill around the open dictionaries and compare their thoughts on the afternoon's literary intake....

Past Week - Personal Stuff

Not that eventful of a week - I don't think I did much of anything outside of work and home. My parents made my son and I both dinner the past two days, so that's something, and we went over there a bit. We also watched some Netflix and lounged around the house. A friend stopped by to see me after work, but besides that I've just been working, sleeping, reading, and a little bit of cleaning.

What I'm Making -

The only thing I made was taking a few pictures to catch up on and schedule in advance the April Photo Book challenge I'm taking part in. Bummed at the cell phone camera quality, though, and my ideas aren't coming out as good as I'd hoped. Definitely need to practice more than I thought I would.

What I'm Watching - I started Netflix's Daredevil - I'm not addicted yet, but definitely like it. Watched six episodes so far. The actors they chose to play the parts were well chosen. I haven't had the chance to see this week's Grimm; watching Once Upon a Time now. No new shows this week for Supernatural, Flash, or Arrow - they're on a break (again.)

We did watch the horror movie Oculus, which was better than I figured (even if my friend hated it), and Leprechaun 2, which I didn't want to watch at all, but my son made me. Sigh, those movies are terrible.

Reading Updates

   Read This Week

I read two children's books this week, need to get through them. Both were entertaining. Also finished the second read of the year on my plan to go through my 'superhero' collection. Finally finished City of Heavenly Fire - I'm done with the Mortal Instrument series (review soon.) The Tenth Planet was a surprise - a science fiction novel, which is usually a genre I don't read, but it was great. It was with a future false Utopia on a hidden world. Excellent stuff, the pages flew by.

   Currently Reading

For my next drama read, planning to start House of Sand and Fog. Been excited to read that one for awhile. I've owned Watchmen forever and love the movie, so why the delay in reading it? Who knows. It's made it for my next third superhero read of the year. Neverwhere I'm in the middle of as my fantasy / horror read - very good so far, it's my first of the author.

I've been meaning to re-read Jaws for awhile. As a teen I read it and found it rather dull, so probably will again but want to try. In the mood for a straight gothic, so jumping into The Lost Locket of Windbrace Hall. Steelheart is highly rated and popular at Goodreads, so chose it for my next YA read.
