One minute Lily is
trying, and failing, to run her grandmother’s farm—her last remaining
connection to her family. The next, she wakes to find herself in a cold,
sterile cage surrounded by monsters, with no memory of how she got
there. Accidentally abducted by alien poachers, unsure if she will live
or die, she is dreading the worst. What she doesn’t expect is for her
captors to dump her on an alien planet to fend for herself. Now, she
must fight to survive the planet… or die trying.
Frrar, Tor, and Arruk have been searching endlessly for a mate to belong to, someone to finally accept them, but they are losing hope. The time of cleansing, when the great waters drown the land, draws near. They are on the verge of abandoning their search and fleeing the forest when they spot a strange, tiny, two-armed female. They are immediately drawn to her, fascinated by her differences, but they must act fast to save her life, and their own, from the coming flood. |
I've been getting into Reverse Harems lately as something completely different than what I usually like - I'm typically a monogamous soul-mate kind of gal who digs fated-to-be-mated pairings and nearly obsessive love interests - these are a bizarre change that works in their own ways. That said, this is the first I've read of an alien adventure - thanks to the
Most of these seem to follow checklist tropes, but since it's my first time exploring a new world of romance - literally - this one introduced completely new tropes. No twins this time! The main character is accidentally sucked into an alien thievery that seems designed to steal cows and actual animals instead of the two-legged human kind, but poor Lilly finds herself sucked up along with her cows. After the alien jailers figure out their error and worry about hefty fines for their mistake, they dump the single farmer on a dangerous planet to bury the evidence.
Lilly doesn't last long until she's rescued by three male aliens who are "Searching" for their mate. Apparently in their culture their existence surrounds having a central woman to take care of in every way possible. They are bizarre looking but appeal to Lilly almost immediately (not a surprise). The cheesy storyline totally fits this RH Alien storyline. There is ample humor in them figuring out their differences, using their tales to communicate, find out how clumsy their new human friend is, and have miscommunications of cultural wooing.
It's silly but it's fun and the author has a worthy writing style to hold up the story firmly. Lilly is a sweet, creative character who - despite some raunchy dialogue that makes me cringe - is a joy to be in the head of. The men are adorable counterparts of each other, their vulnerabilities endearing instead of eye-roll inducing.
The focus is of course romance and erotica but the author stuffs a storyline in there where the characters actually get to know and explore each other mentally as well as physically. Steamy scenes work well enough when they land, and the tails whipping our pheromones to help the female along don't hurt that plot point.
I'll quit rambling now - basically if you like Reverse Harems, and Reverse Harems with ALIENS, you'll very likely enjoy this one. The weird, quirky side of romance can be fun at times!
